SUMMARY:Exploring Cultural Humility in Youth Work
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday December 1st & Thursday December 2nd\, 2021 \n9:30 AM – 12:30 PM EST both days \nOnline Training \nTraining Fee: $150* \n*We do not offer scholarships for our trainings\, but do offer discounts on a case-by-case basis.  If this fee presents a challenge\, please email us at best@hria.org. \nPlease Note: We are capping this training at 35 people on a first come\, first served basis.  We ask that each organization send no more than three people to this training.  Thank you for your understanding.\nIt is essential to allow young people the space to be fully themselves\, and sometimes\, our own biases and assumptions can get in the way of this happening.  This two-day\, six-hour online training will focus on exploring the concept of cultural humility\, and how our values and experiences play a big role in how we operate in programs.  There will be space for self-reflection and opportunities to think through how we can create space in programming for young people to share all the facets of their cultural identities.  By centering positive youth development in this conversation\, the trainers will help participants along their ever-evolving journey of cultural humility and creating and cultivating spaces that are open and inclusive for young people to feel safe. \nTo view a PDF version of the flyer\, please click here.\nREGISTRATION IS CLOSED.

SUMMARY:(CANCELLED) What We Bring: White Youth Workers in Communities of Color
DESCRIPTION:THIS TRAINING HAS BEEN CANCELLED. WE HOPE TO HOST IT THIS FALL BASED ON TRAINER AVAILABILITY.\n2 Days\, May 13th and 14th \n9:30AM-3:00PM \nTraining Fee: $175pp \n(no scholarships available) \nIn partnership with: Lori Lobenstine\, DS4SI \nGood youth work requires a strong sense of self on the part of the youth worker\, but all too often\, whiteness is awkward for white youth workers (and youth) to talk about.  This 10-hour training will offer participants room to talk about the challenges of addressing\, confronting and embracing their identities as white youth workers\, their reasons for working in communities of color\, and what they can’t and shouldn’t bring to the work.  Scenarios and other interactive tools will be used to help explore what best practices are in terms of talking with youth about race\, addressing power dynamics\, building alliances with youth workers of color\, and sharing approaches and tools to help navigate challenges that come up in this work.

SUMMARY:Gender Identity & Sexual Orientation: Creating Inclusive Environments
DESCRIPTION:October 16th \n9:30AM-4:00PM \nTraining Fee: $99pp \n(no scholarships available) \nPresented in Partnership with kyriQ\nView PDF version of the flyer\nGender and sexuality show up in our lives everyday – whether it’s in workplace roles\, how we perceive others\, or something as seemingly simple as the bathroom we choose in public spaces. For LGBTQ+ youth\, seeking out supportive adults\, peers\, and spaces is extremely important to emotional and physical safety. As non-profit youth providers\, we have the opportunity to create more inclusive environments for youth of all gender identities and orientations. \nThis training is designed for anyone in the non-profit sector who is interested in learning more about gender identity and sexual orientation\, especially as it relates to LGBTQ+ youth. We’ll start with looking at ourselves – what biases and stereotypes do we hold? What has society taught us about gender and sexuality? Then\, we’ll think about how this impacts our work and the people we serve. Finally\, we’ll explore organizational policies and practices. Our training style is interactive\, fun\, intersectional\, and practical – including scenarios\, videos\, sharing personal experiences\, and discussions. \nObjectives:\n• Examine our personal and societal biases (conscious and unconscious) about gender/sexuality and what impact they have on our work\n• Explore existing challenges related to gender equity and LGBTQ+ inclusivity\, as well as resilience among these communities\n• Develop skills to discuss these topics with colleagues\, partners\, youth\, etc.\n• Identify policies and practices that promote greater inclusion and equity within your organization \nREGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN\, USE THE FORM BELOW TO REGISTER!
